The Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is one of Spain's most significant religious landmarks, drawing pilgrims and tourists alike to its Baroque grandeur. Located on the banks of the Ebro River, the basilica's distinctive domes and colorful tiles dominate the Zaragoza skyline. Inside, the most treasured sight is the small wooden statue of the Virgin Mary atop a pillar, which according to tradition was brought by the Apostle James. The interior is richly decorated with frescoes by Francisco de Goya, including his famous 'Regina Martyrum' in the choir. Visitors can also explore the Holy Chapel, where the pillar is enshrined, and climb one of the towers for panoramic views of the city. The basilica's museum houses a collection of religious art and artifacts. The atmosphere is reverent yet welcoming, with masses held regularly. The plaza outside is a lively gathering spot, especially during the Fiestas del Pilar in October.
