Tarragona Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of Saint Mary, is a magnificent blend of architectural styles that tells the story of the city's layered history. Constructed between the 12th and 14th centuries, it stands on the site of a former Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter, and later a mosque. The exterior is predominantly Romanesque, with a beautiful rose window and a grand facade, while the interior transitions into Gothic, featuring soaring vaulted ceilings, intricate chapels, and a serene cloister. Visitors can explore the main nave, the choir stalls with detailed carvings, and the Diocesan Museum housed in the cloister, which contains religious art and artifacts. One of the highlights is climbing the bell tower for sweeping views over Tarragona's rooftops and the Mediterranean Sea. The cathedral remains an active place of worship, so respectful attire is required. Its location in the historic Part Alta (Upper Town) makes it a central stop on any walking tour of the city.
