The Roman Theatre of Tarraco is a fascinating archaeological site located near the city center. Built in the 1st century BC, it once seated up to 5,000 spectators who came to watch plays and other performances. The theater was carved into the natural slope of the hillside, with seating arranged in a semicircle. Today, visitors can see the remains of the stage area (scaenae frons) and the lower rows of seats. The site is open to the sky, and you can walk among the ruins, imagining the lively performances that once took place. Informational panels provide context about the theater's history and architecture. It's a quieter attraction compared to the amphitheater, offering a more intimate experience.
