Quintana Square, or Praza da Quintana, is a charming cobblestone plaza on the eastern side of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. It is divided into two levels: the upper Quintana de Vivos (Square of the Living) and the lower Quintana de Mortos (Square of the Dead), named after a former cemetery. The square is famous for its grand Baroque staircase that leads up to the cathedral's Holy Door (Porta Santa), which is only opened during Holy Years. The atmosphere here is vibrant, with street musicians, artists, and pilgrims resting on the steps. On summer evenings, the square hosts concerts and cultural events. The surrounding buildings include the Convent of San Paio de Antealtares and the Casa da Parra, a historic house with a distinctive chimney. It's a quieter alternative to the main plaza, offering a more intimate view of the cathedral.
