City Hall Square (Plaza Consistorial) is the political and ceremonial center of Pamplona. This elegant, arcaded square is dominated by the City Hall building, a 18th-century Baroque structure with a striking red-and-gold façade. The square is relatively small but packed with significance: it's where thousands gather every July 6th at noon to watch the mayor launch the Chupinazo, a rocket that marks the start of the San Fermín running of the bulls. During the festival, the square becomes a sea of red scarves and white clothing, with revelers spraying champagne and singing. Outside festival time, it's a pleasant place to sit at a café, admire the architecture, and watch daily life. The square connects to the old town's narrow streets and is a short walk from the cathedral and other landmarks.

Don't miss

  • The Baroque City Hall building with its ornate balcony
  • The annual Chupinazo ceremony (July 6, noon)
  • Cafés and bars around the square with outdoor seating
  • Proximity to the old town's main shopping streets
  • The statue of the 'Running of the Bulls' near the square
