San Miguel de Lillo stands a short walk from Santa María del Naranco on Monte Naranco, sharing the same UNESCO World Heritage designation. Built in the 9th century as part of the same royal complex, this church is a prime example of Asturian pre-Romanesque architecture. Though only a portion of the original structure remains (the nave and part of the portico), it is celebrated for its elegant design and sculptural details. The interior features a raised choir, narrow nave, and preserved frescoes that hint at its original decoration. The stone carvings on the doorways and capitals depict biblical scenes and geometric patterns, showcasing the skill of early medieval artisans. The setting is tranquil, with views of the surrounding hills. Visitors often combine a trip here with Santa María del Naranco, as they are within walking distance. The church is smaller and more intimate, offering a glimpse into the spiritual life of the Asturian kingdom.
