The Roman Forum of Mérida was the bustling heart of the Roman colony of Emerita Augusta, founded in 25 BC. Today, the archaeological site reveals the foundations and partial reconstructions of key civic structures. Visitors can explore the remains of the Temple of Mars, the Basilica, and the porticoed square that once hosted markets and political gatherings. The site is an open-air museum, with information panels explaining the layout and function of each building. The nearby National Museum of Roman Art houses many artifacts excavated from the forum, providing deeper context. The forum's location adjacent to the modern city center makes it easy to combine with other Roman ruins in Mérida, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
