The Temple of Debod is a unique historical treasure in Madrid: an authentic ancient Egyptian temple that was dismantled and rebuilt in the city's Parque del Oeste. Originally constructed around 200 BC in southern Egypt, it was dedicated to the gods Amun and Isis. In 1968, Egypt gifted the temple to Spain as a gesture of gratitude for help saving the Abu Simbel temples from flooding. Visitors can walk around the temple grounds, admire its stone reliefs, and enter the small chambers. The setting is serene, with a reflecting pool and views over the Royal Palace and Casa de Campo. At sunset, the temple is beautifully illuminated, making it a romantic spot. Inside, the walls still bear carvings of pharaohs and deities, offering a glimpse into ancient religious practices.

Don't miss

  • Temple Exterior: Walk around the original stone blocks and see the entrance pylon.
  • Interior Chambers: Enter the sanctuary and see reliefs of gods and pharaohs.
  • Reflecting Pool: The water feature in front creates stunning reflections, especially at sunset.
  • Sunset Views: The temple offers one of Madrid's best sunset viewpoints over the Royal Palace.
