Lugo Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of Santa María, is a Roman Catholic church that evolved over centuries, resulting in a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architecture. Its construction began in the 12th century on the site of an earlier church. The interior features a stunning Baroque main altarpiece and a notable Romanesque portal. The cathedral also houses the revered image of the Virgen de los Ojos Grandes (Our Lady of the Big Eyes), the city's patron saint. Visitors can explore the cloister and the Diocesan Museum.

Don't miss

  • Admire the Romanesque north portal, one of the cathedral's oldest surviving elements
  • See the Baroque main altarpiece, a masterpiece of gilded woodwork
  • Visit the Diocesan Museum in the cloister for religious art and artifacts
