The Campo Valdés Roman baths are one of Gijón's most significant archaeological sites, located in the Cimadevilla quarter near the city's Roman wall. These well-preserved public baths date from the 1st century AD and were in use until the 4th century. Visitors can walk on elevated walkways above the ruins, viewing the cold, warm, and hot rooms (frigidarium, tepidarium, caldarium) as well as the heating system (hypocaust). The on-site museum displays artifacts found during excavations, including pottery, coins, and tools. The site offers a tangible connection to Gijón's Roman past, distinct from the city's later medieval and modern layers.

Don't miss

  • The hypocaust system (underfloor heating) still visible
  • The frigidarium with its cold plunge pool
  • Roman inscriptions and altars found on site
  • Interactive models showing how the baths originally looked
