The Roman Theatre of Cartagena is one of Spain's most significant Roman ruins, dating back to the 1st century BC. Discovered in 1988 during construction work, the theatre was carved into the hillside and could seat up to 6,000 spectators. Visitors today can explore the excavated cavea (seating area), orchestra, and stage, and view artifacts in the adjoining museum. The site offers a tangible connection to Carthago Nova's Roman past, with panoramic views over the modern city from the upper tiers.

Don't miss

  • Walk through the cavea and imagine spectacles from 2,000 years ago.
  • Examine original architectural fragments and sculptures in the on-site museum.
  • Enjoy sweeping views of Cartagena's harbour and historic centre from the theatre's summit.
