The Sagrada Família is a monumental basilica that has been under construction since 1882, blending Gothic and Art Nouveau forms in a way that defies convention. As you approach, the sheer scale of its 18 spindle-like towers, each representing an apostle, evangelist, or Mary, is breathtaking. The Nativity Facade, completed during Gaudí's lifetime, teems with organic, almost living stone carvings of flora and fauna. Inside, the forest-like columns branch toward a ceiling of hyperboloid vaults, while stained-glass windows cast pools of amber, blue, and green light across the nave. The Passion Facade, stark and angular, offers a somber counterpoint. An elevator ride up one of the towers rewards you with a close-up view of the mosaic-covered pinnacles and a sweeping panorama of Barcelona. Despite ongoing construction, the basilica feels complete in its vision, a testament to Gaudí's genius and the city's enduring devotion.
