Ciutadella Park (Parc de la Ciutadella) is Barcelona's greenest refuge, a 70-acre oasis that was once a military fortress. Today, it's a vibrant public space with a grand lake where you can rent rowboats, a stunning cascading fountain designed by Josep Fontserè (with a young Gaudí contributing), and wide promenades shaded by palms and plane trees. The park houses the Catalan Parliament building, the Barcelona Zoo, and several museums. On weekends, families, joggers, and picnickers fill the lawns, while street performers entertain near the lake. The park's centerpiece is the monumental waterfall (Cascada Monumental), a theatrical cascade adorned with sculptures and a golden chariot. Unlike the manicured gardens of Montjuïc, Ciutadella feels more organic and lively. It's a place to linger: feed the ducks, watch a puppet show, or simply nap under a tree. Its proximity to the Born neighborhood and the beach makes it a perfect stop on a day of exploring.
