The Convento de San José, also known as Las Madres, is the first convent established by Saint Teresa of Ávila in 1562 as part of her Discalced Carmelite reform. The building is a simple yet charming example of 16th-century religious architecture, with a small church and cloister. Today, it houses a museum dedicated to Saint Teresa's life and work, featuring original letters, personal objects, and artwork. Visitors can see the cell where Saint Teresa lived and the garden where she prayed. The convent's intimate scale and historical significance offer a deeply personal glimpse into the saint's mission and spirituality.
