The Concatedral de San Nicolás de Bari is the co-cathedral of Alicante, sharing the title with the Cathedral of Orihuela. Built between 1616 and 1662 on the site of a former mosque, it is a prime example of Spanish Baroque architecture. The church's most distinctive feature is its blue-tiled dome, which glows against the sky and can be seen from many points in the city. Inside, the single nave is flanked by side chapels, with a magnificent altarpiece dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The cloister, with its orange trees and peaceful atmosphere, offers a quiet retreat from the bustling old town. The cathedral also houses a museum of religious art.
