Camp Bonifas is a United Nations Command military installation located just south of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), adjacent to the Joint Security Area (JSA). It is a common stop on organized DMZ tours from Seoul, offering visitors a chance to see a working military base and learn about the armistice that ended the Korean War. The camp is named after Captain Arthur Bonifas, who was killed in the 1976 axe murder incident at Panmunjeom. Visitors typically see the camp's barracks, the iconic Bridge of No Return, and the JSA conference rooms where negotiations occur. The experience provides a sobering look at the ongoing division of Korea.

Don't miss

  • View the Bridge of No Return, where prisoners of war were exchanged after the Korean War.
  • Visit the JSA conference rooms straddling the border between North and South Korea.
  • Observe the military guard posts and learn about the armistice from a UN Command guide.
