Šmarjetna Gora is a 646-meter hill near Kranj, crowned by the Church of Saint Margaret. The hill is a popular local excursion, offering a gentle climb through mixed forest and open slopes. At the top, the church provides a focal point, and the surrounding meadow offers a broad vista of Kranj, the Sava River, and the distant Alpine chain. Interpretive panels along the trail explain the area's natural and cultural history. The site is also a starting point for paragliders, who launch from the slopes. It's a compact, accessible nature escape that combines light exercise, history, and stunning scenery.
Don't miss
- Climb the short, well-marked trail from the parking area to the summit
- Enjoy the panoramic view of Kranj and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps
- Watch paragliders take off from the hillside on windy days
