Predjama Castle perches 123 meters above the valley floor, wedged into a natural cave opening in a sheer limestone cliff. Originally built in the 12th century, the current Renaissance structure dates from the 16th century. The castle's most famous resident was the 15th-century knight Erazem Lueger, who used a secret tunnel to resupply during a siege. Visitors can explore the furnished rooms, the chapel, and the hidden passage that leads to the upper cave. The castle's dramatic setting, a fortress seemingly growing from the rock, makes it one of the most photogenic in Europe. The surrounding Predjama Valley offers hiking trails with panoramic views.

Don't miss

  • The secret tunnel and cave chambers behind the castle, used by Erazem for escape and supply runs.
  • The knight's armor and weaponry exhibit in the great hall, illustrating medieval siege tactics.
  • The view from the castle's upper terrace, overlooking the valley and the adjacent karst landscape.
