The Italian Charnel House in Kobarid is a poignant memorial built on the site of a former church, containing the bones of more than 7,000 Italian soldiers who died in the nearby battles of the Isonzo Front. Visitors approach via a stone staircase lined with cypress trees, leading to a circular chapel with concentric rings of niches filled with skulls and bones. The interior features striking frescoes and a crypt, while the terrace offers views over the Soča Valley. It's a place for quiet reflection on the human cost of war.
