SNP Square serves as the historic heart of Banská Bystrica, a cobblestoned plaza surrounded by colorful Renaissance and Baroque buildings. At its center stands a plague column erected in the 18th century as a thanks for surviving epidemics. The square is dominated by the old Town Hall, a Gothic-Renaissance structure that now houses a museum.
