Tajchy are a network of over 60 artificial reservoirs constructed from the 15th to 18th centuries to power mining operations in Banská Štiavnica. Today, these serene lakes are integrated into the landscape, offering visitors a unique blend of industrial heritage and natural recreation. You can walk or cycle along well-marked trails that connect several reservoirs, each with its own character. The Tajchy are distinctive for their historical engineering significance, they were once the most advanced water management system in Europe, and now provide peaceful spots for picnicking, swimming in summer, or simply enjoying the forested hills.
