King's Yard is a significant historical site in Freetown, established in the early 19th century as a reception center for Africans rescued from slave ships by the British Royal Navy. Here, thousands of liberated Africans, known as Liberated Africans or Krios, were processed, registered, and settled. Today, the site includes a memorial and remnants of the original structures. Visitors can walk the grounds and reflect on this poignant chapter of Sierra Leone's history, which shaped the cultural identity of the Krio people.
