Skull Tower (Ćele Kula) is a unique and haunting landmark in Niš, built by the Ottoman Empire from the skulls of Serbian rebels killed in the 1809 Battle of Čegar. Originally containing 952 skulls, today 58 remain embedded in a stone tower. Visitors see the skulls behind glass, along with interpretive panels explaining the battle and the tower's history as a symbol of Serbian resistance. The site includes a small chapel-like structure and a peaceful garden, offering a sobering but important historical experience.
