The Prophet's Mosque, or Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, is the second holiest site in Islam after the Grand Mosque in Mecca. Built originally by the Prophet Muhammad himself, it has expanded over centuries to accommodate millions of worshippers. Visitors come to pray in its vast courtyards and under its iconic umbrellas, experience the spiritual atmosphere, and pay respects at the Rawdah, a garden considered one of Paradise's gardens. The mosque's green dome marks the Prophet's tomb, a focal point for pilgrims.

Don't miss

  • Visit the Rawdah, the area between the Prophet's pulpit and his house, considered a blessed garden of Paradise.
  • Observe the intricate Ottoman-era architecture and the retractable umbrellas that shade the vast courtyards.
  • Pray in the main prayer hall, which can hold over 600,000 worshippers during peak times.
