The Siege of Diriyah marks the dramatic end of the first Saudi state in 1818, when Ottoman forces led by Ibrahim Pasha destroyed the capital. Today, the area preserves remnants of the original fortifications, including crumbling walls and cannon placements. A visitor center provides context through multimedia exhibits about the siege and the fall of the state. The site offers a sobering contrast to the restored At-Turaif district, with ruins left largely untouched to convey the scale of destruction.
Don't miss
- View the original defensive walls and cannon emplacements used during the siege.
- Watch the multimedia presentation at the visitor center explaining the 1818 battle.
- See the preserved ruins of the Al-Bujairi district, where fierce fighting occurred.
