The Motherland Calls

The Motherland Calls is the centerpiece of the Mamayev Kurgan memorial complex, soaring 85 meters above the hill. Visitors climb 200 granite steps leading to the statue, symbolizing the 200 days of the Battle of Stalingrad. The figure's dynamic pose and immense scale evoke the nation's call to arms. From the base, you can see the Volga River and the city of Volgograd. The statue is made of concrete and was the tallest statue in the world when unveiled in 1967.
