The Old Katholikon, or Trinity Cathedral, is the oldest church within the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, built in 1422 over the grave of St. Sergius. Its white-stone architecture and single golden dome exemplify early Muscovite style. Inside, the iconostasis features a copy of Andrei Rublev's Trinity, the original of which was created for this cathedral. The interior is adorned with frescoes and icons, creating a deeply spiritual ambiance. Pilgrims and visitors come to venerate the relics of St. Sergius, housed in a silver shrine.
