The Chinese Village is a picturesque ensemble of twelve one-story houses with pagoda roofs, curved eaves, and bright colors, located within the Alexander Park of Tsarskoye Selo. Commissioned by Catherine the Great in the 1780s, it was designed by architect Antonio Rinaldi and later completed by Charles Cameron. The village was intended to evoke a Chinese settlement, complete with a central street and a dragon-adorned bridge. Today, the buildings are used as private residences and are not open to the public, but visitors can stroll along the main alley, admire the architecture, and photograph the whimsical facades. The site offers a serene escape from the palace crowds.

Don't miss

  • Walk the main alley to see the colorful pagoda roofs and ornate eaves of each house.
  • Spot the dragon sculptures on the bridge at the village entrance.
  • Photograph the contrast between the Chinese-style buildings and the nearby Gothic structures of the Alexander Palace.
