The Gostiny Dvor is one of the oldest stone buildings in Arkhangelsk, built in the 1660s as a trading center for Russian and foreign merchants. Today, it houses the Arkhangelsk Museum of Local Lore, where visitors can explore exhibits on the region's natural history, Pomor traditions, and Arctic exploration. The arcade's restored architecture, with its arched galleries and brick walls, provides a atmospheric setting for learning about the city's mercantile past.
Don't miss
- Exhibits on Pomor daily life, including traditional boats and fishing gear
- The 'Arkhangelsk – Gateway to the Arctic' hall with artifacts from polar expeditions
- The restored merchant courtyard and arcade architecture
