Theresia Bastion is a surviving section of the Vauban-style fortress that once encircled Timișoara, built under Empress Maria Theresa. Today, visitors can walk along the restored ramparts and explore the dry moat, which hosts open-air events and exhibitions. The massive brick walls and arched gateways offer a tangible link to the city's Habsburg military past. It's a quiet spot for history buffs, with informative plaques explaining the bastion's role in defending the city.
Don't miss
- Walk along the top of the bastion walls for views of the old town
- See the original 18th-century brickwork and defensive gun emplacements
- Visit during summer for occasional concerts and art installations in the moat
