The Historic Centre of Sighișoara is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval towns, encircled by fortified walls and dotted with Saxon-era houses. Visitors can wander cobblestone lanes past pastel-colored burgher homes, climb the covered stairway to the Church on the Hill, and explore artisan shops and cafes. The citadel's nine remaining towers, each once guarded by a different guild, add to the fairy-tale atmosphere. This living museum is both a residential area and a vibrant tourist destination, where history feels tangible at every turn.

Don't miss

  • Walk the cobblestone streets and admire the colorful 16th-century merchant houses
  • Explore the nine surviving defensive towers, including the Tailors' and Butchers' towers
  • Visit the covered wooden stairway (Șchei Stairs) leading up to the Church on the Hill
