Biserica Neagră, or the Black Church, is a magnificent Gothic Lutheran church in Brașov, one of the largest of its kind in Romania. Its name comes from a fire in 1689 that blackened its walls. Inside, visitors are awed by the soaring vaulted ceilings, intricate stonework, and a remarkable collection of over 100 antique Oriental rugs, donated by Transylvanian Saxon merchants. The church also houses a massive 6,000-pipe organ, and concerts are held here regularly. A visit offers a deep dive into the region's Saxon heritage and architectural prowess.
