Paseo de la Princesa, originally built in 1853 as a promenade for the governor's daughter, is a charming tree-lined walkway stretching along the San Juan Bay. The path is paved with cobblestones and flanked by restored colonial buildings, including the former prison (now the Puerto Rico Tourism Company). Key features include the Raíces Fountain, a bronze sculpture depicting Puerto Rico's cultural heritage, and the Tótem Telúrico, a colorful mosaic column. Visitors can stroll, relax on benches, and enjoy panoramic views of the bay and the historic city walls. The promenade is especially lively on weekends with local artisans and street performers.
Don't miss
- Photograph the Raíces Fountain, with its bronze figures representing the Taíno, African, and Spanish roots of Puerto Rico.
- Walk the full length of the promenade for sweeping views of San Juan Bay and the old city walls.
- Browse artisan stalls and watch street performers on weekend evenings.
