La Fortaleza, built between 1533 and 1540, is the oldest executive mansion in continuous use in the Americas. Visitors can admire its striking blue-and-white facade and explore the surrounding grounds, which include lush gardens and historic cannons. As a UNESCO site, it represents a key part of San Juan's fortification system. Guided tours offer insight into its role as a fortress turned governor's home, with rooms showcasing period furniture and political history. The site's location in Old San Juan makes it a convenient stop while exploring the city's colonial core.
