Río Abajo State Forest is a 2,300-acre reserve in the karst region of northern Puerto Rico, characterized by mogotes (limestone hills) and sinkholes. It offers several hiking trails that wind through moist forest, past caves and along ridges with valley views. The forest is home to the endangered Puerto Rican parrot, as well as coquí frogs and many bird species. Visitors can also explore the Cambalache Forest Reserve within the area, which has a campground and picnic spots. It’s a quiet spot for hiking and birdwatching.
