Capela das Almas, also known as the Chapel of Souls, is a small 18th-century chapel located on Rua de Santa Catarina, Porto's main shopping street. Its most striking feature is the exterior, which is completely covered in traditional blue-and-white azulejo tiles depicting scenes from the lives of saints. The tiles were added in 1929 by artist Eduardo Leite. Inside, the chapel is simple but serene, with a gilded altar. Despite being surrounded by modern shops, the chapel is a peaceful spot for reflection and a popular photo opportunity. The azulejos are among the finest examples of this art form in Porto.
