The National Museum of the Azulejo is located in the former Madre de Deus Convent, a 16th-century building with a beautiful Manueline cloister. The museum traces the history of azulejos from their Moorish origins to contemporary designs, featuring a vast collection of tiles that once adorned churches, palaces, and fountains. Highlights include a 36-meter-long panoramic panel of Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake and a Baroque chapel lined with gilded woodwork and azulejos. Visitors can also see the convent's church, which is covered in blue-and-white tiles.
