The Castle of Paderne is a 12th-century Moorish fortress located on a hilltop overlooking the Quarteira River valley. Its well-preserved walls and keep showcase traditional Islamic military architecture, with a rectangular layout and solid stone construction. Visitors can walk along the battlements and climb the keep for sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and distant coast. The site is less visited than other Algarve castles, offering a quiet, atmospheric experience. Inside the walls, interpretive panels explain the castle's history and the Moorish occupation. The castle is a short walk from the village of Paderne.

Don't miss

  • Climb the keep for panoramic views of the valley and hills.
  • Walk the intact walls and imagine medieval life in the fortress.
