The Dom Luís I Bridge is an iconic double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the Douro River, linking Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Designed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, its upper deck carries the metro while the lower deck handles road traffic. Visitors can walk across both levels to enjoy sweeping views of the river and the historic port wine cellars. The bridge is especially striking at sunset, when the golden light illuminates its ironwork.
Don't miss
- Walk the upper deck for panoramic views over Porto and Gaia.
- Photograph the bridge from the riverside at sunset.
- Cross the lower deck to explore the port wine lodges in Gaia.
