Citânia de Santa Luzia is an archaeological site perched on the hilltop of Monte de Santa Luzia, just above Viana do Castelo. Dating from the 1st millennium BCE, this fortified Celtic settlement (castro) features the foundations of circular stone houses, defensive walls, and a network of paved streets. Excavations have revealed artifacts like pottery and tools, now displayed in the nearby museum. The site's elevated position provides a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Lima River estuary, the city, and the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can walk among the ruins, imagining daily life in the Iron Age, and combine the visit with the adjacent Santa Luzia Sanctuary.

Don't miss

  • Explore the circular stone huts and ancient paved pathways of the castro
  • Take in the panoramic view from the hilltop overlooking Viana and the coast
