The Fort of Our Lady of the Incarnation in Carvoeiro is a small 17th-century coastal fortress that once defended against pirates. Today, its ramparts serve as a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the famous Algar Seco rock formations, limestone cliffs sculpted by wind and waves into caves, arches, and sea stacks. Visitors can walk along the fort's walls, peer through old cannon embrasures, and photograph the rugged coastline. The site is free to enter and provides a prime spot for sunset watching.

Don't miss

  • Take in the sweeping ocean views from the fort's battlements.
  • Photograph the Algar Seco rock formations from above.
  • Watch the sunset paint the cliffs and sea in warm hues.
