The Church of the Jesuit College is a masterpiece of Azorean baroque architecture, built by the Jesuits in the 1600s. Its facade is relatively simple, but the interior dazzles with gold-leafed woodcarvings, painted ceiling panels, and blue-and-white azulejo tiles depicting religious scenes. The main altar is particularly ornate, and the church houses a small museum of sacred art. It remains an active place of worship and a key cultural landmark in Ponta Delgada.
