The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré is a significant pilgrimage destination perched on the Sítio da Nazaré cliff. The church's Baroque interior is lavishly decorated with gilded woodwork, azulejo tiles, and paintings, centering on the small, dark wooden statue of Our Lady of Nazaré, believed to have been brought from the Holy Land in the 4th century. Pilgrims come to venerate the statue, which is associated with a 12th-century miracle. The sanctuary offers panoramic views of the coastline and the famous Nazaré waves below.

Don't miss

  • View the revered 4th-century statue of Our Lady of Nazaré in the main altar
  • Admire the Baroque gilded woodwork and azulejo panels
  • Step outside to the terrace for sweeping views of the Atlantic and Praia do Norte
