Praia do Norte, north of Nazaré's main beach, is world-famous for its colossal waves, which can exceed 30 meters (100 feet) during winter swells. The waves form due to the underwater Nazaré Canyon, which funnels and amplifies ocean energy. This beach is a mecca for big-wave surfers, who challenge the monstrous breaks, while spectators gather on the cliff at Sítio da Nazaré to watch. The beach itself is a wild, sandy expanse backed by cliffs, offering dramatic views and a sense of raw natural power.
