The Castle of Lousa (Castellum Lousa) is a Roman archaeological site perched on a hilltop with commanding views of the Alqueva reservoir. Dating back to the 1st century AD, these ruins are the remains of a Roman fortification, possibly part of a defensive network. Visitors can wander among the stone foundations and walls, imagining life in ancient times. The site is less visited than other castles, offering a quiet, contemplative experience. Information panels explain the history, and the reservoir views are spectacular.
