Igreja de Santo António, located in the historic center of Lagos, is a masterpiece of Baroque art built in the early 18th century. Its interior is covered in intricate gilded woodcarvings (talha dourada) and blue-and-white azulejo panels depicting scenes from the life of Saint Anthony. The church is often called the 'golden church' due to the overwhelming amount of gold leaf. Adjoining the church is a small museum with religious artifacts. It stands as a testament to the wealth and artistry of Portugal's Baroque period.
