Citânia de Briteiros is one of Portugal's most important archaeological sites, a fortified Iron Age settlement (castro) that flourished between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. Excavations have revealed a complex of circular stone houses, paved streets, and defensive walls, with several huts reconstructed to show how the Castro culture lived. The site sits on a hilltop with views over the Ave River valley. A small museum displays artifacts found during excavations, including pottery and tools.
