Chaves is a historic city in northern Portugal known for its Roman past, medieval architecture, and natural hot springs. The city center features a well-preserved Roman bridge (Ponte de Trajano) with 12 visible arches, a medieval castle keep (Torre de Menagem), and narrow cobblestone streets lined with traditional shops and cafés. Visitors can also experience the thermal baths, which have been used since Roman times, and stroll along the Tâmega River.
