Zamość Fortress is a star-shaped bastion fortification built between 1618 and 1624, encircling the old town. Designed by Bernardo Morando, it features seven bastions, thick walls, and three historic gates. Visitors can walk along the ramparts, explore the Lublin Gate and Szczebrzeszyn Gate, and visit the powder magazine. The fortress never fell to enemy assault, and its preserved structure offers insight into 17th-century military engineering. Today, it hosts cultural events and provides a scenic green belt around the old town.
Don't miss
- Walk the ramparts for views of the old town and surrounding park
- Explore the Lublin Gate, a grand entrance with a museum inside
- Visit the powder magazine, now a exhibition space
