Giewont is one of the most recognizable peaks in the Polish Tatras, with its characteristic silhouette that locals say resembles a sleeping knight. The massif comprises three summits: Great Giewont, Small Giewont, and Długi Giewont. The most popular hiking route leads to the summit of Great Giewont, which features a steel cross erected in 1901. The trail is challenging, with chains and ladders in exposed sections, but rewards hikers with breathtaking views of Zakopane and the High Tatras. Due to its popularity, the trail can be crowded in summer, and weather changes rapidly.
Don't miss
- Hike to the summit of Great Giewont for panoramic views of the Tatra range
- See the iconic steel cross at the top, a symbol of Polish resilience
